How FretMaestro came to be:
A different point of view: When a task is especially difficult to do it means it can be done easier and better at the same time. Instead of simply accepting the status quo, which anti-progress, question it and see how some thing can be better.
I questioned the old school way of leveling and profiling frets. This method is not novice friendly, it requires the patience of a saint, and the skills of a guru luthier to get it good enough.
I was perplexed that the old school tools are flat and straight, adaptations from 19th century wood working hand tools, but for doing compound radius work ithis counterintuitive.
FretMaestro takes the logical approach, we're filing a compund radius fret, the length of the fret radius plus the width of the crown radius, and logic says that we should be using a compound radius file (FretMaestro Radius), or one that can trace the fretrboard radius via depth-of-cut control (FretMaestro OMNI Pro).
The rewards of this logic:
1. eliminates the guesswork inherent with the old school tools and rules.
2. a tool that anyone can use without special skills or experience to DIY level radius and crown their own frets.
3. CNC precision in the plam of your hand that no old school tools can ever achieve.
The result is FretMaestro, the only all-in-one 21st century fret leveling, radius, & crown tool that requires no special skills or experience to master makes it real for anyone to level, radius & crown their own frets to CNC precision far surpassing the results of using guesswork 19th century tools and rules.
How SixStringers and Wild Plectrum came to be:
I don't think making guitar picks is something anyone aims for as a career. It happens through an evolution of experimentation and passion to get the most play and sound from the guitar. Next thing you know... people you know are asking for the picks, their friends too... and they are telling you make them for sale because they believe in them enough to pay you for the picks you make. And so it goes, one step follows the next.
