There are many YouTube videos on Fret Leveling and repair using old school tools and rules. They all recommend you do not try this at home. This is because using old school flat and straight tools to shape curved frets takes a great deal of practice and saintly patience to become even so-so good at it.

They all use flat sanding beams that bulldoze the frets, and straight files and free hand guess work to reshape the fret length radius to sort of match the fretboard radius, and then sort of reshape the fret crowns.

It takes a very long tedious day for a skilled fret technician and every step chews up more fret material. And, one little slip of the file results in an ugly nick in the fretboard.
AND...
Old School results are frets that are not symmetrical, not consistent height, making it impossible to fully optimize the set up.

Maestro your Frets:
Safely and confidently precision Level, Radius, and Crown your own frets to perfection.
No experience or skills required.
Cost a lot less than buying old school tools or paying a shop for their guess work freehand ways that devour your frets into an asymmetrical mishmash.

Maintaining Diamond Files

Fret material will not chip diamond grit.
That said, fret material is soft, so it will clog a file if the file is pressed to a fret.

Proper use is to let the weight of the file do the work without pressing down.

Clog Preventative trick: Dry Silicon Spray treat the file.

Clean the file: Use a Belt sander Eraser. Do not jam the eraser into the file, use it lightly so it can grab the filings instead of pressing them into the diamond.

Clean the file using a soft and very fine brass bristle; this is especially effective if the file has been dry silicon treated.

Best practice: Treat the file with dry silicon, a light application, not heavy... and use the belt sander eraser as you work, giving the file an occasional erase.

If a file becomes completely clogged... we offer replacement files at a very fair price for customers verified for having purchased from us the FretMaestro that matches the replacement file you wish to order.

Silicon spray, brass bristles, and erasers are readily available online or at hardware/tool/home improvement stores.
